The right kind of friends

Friendship is a deep longing for relationship that is met in a relational connection of many varying degrees and types. There are many experiences in life that can be both positive and negative with regards to friendships. The negative ones and other negative relational experiences can contribute to a 'search' for friendship that may be motivated by negative active emotions. As a kid I remember the pain of feeling left out of friendship groups and circles and have witnessed my own children sometimes experience the same thing. A search for belonging is a deep cry in our hearts and if it isn't present we can struggle and suffer as a result. On the other hand, knowing the joy of true relational connectedness that is not one-sided but reciprocal is a wonderful joy.
